The Yellow-rumped Warbler is a medium-sized (≈6 inches) perching bird with a distinctive yellow rump, black, blue, brown, gray, white, and yellow plumage, a streaked grey‑brown back, brown wings with two white wing bars, and white underparts marked by black side streaks. It forages by flipping leaves and can digest waxes from bayberries, allowing it to winter far north, and its song is a loose, variable trill with a sharp check call.
