The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a medium-sized woodpecker (8 inches) with black and white plumage, bold white wing stripes, a red forehead and throat, and a pale yellow wash on the belly. It is known for its unique feeding habits of drilling holes in tree bark to feed on sap and insects.
